SLICE OF LIFE OF THE DAY!
Good Afternoon, Good Evening, and Good Night! Today is September 30th, 2025. The end of September! The first thing that came to my mind today was a song: “Wake Me Up When September Ends” by Green Day. Fun fact: this song was written by Billie Joe Armstrong after his father’s death in September 1982. Some people also connect it to remembering the 9/11 attacks in 2001.
So, I started my day as usual. I woke up, fell back asleep, woke up again, slept again, woke up again, and finally got up at around 5:50 AM. Like usual, I took a shower and did the morning routine, but I almost ended up late to school. When I got there, I immediately put my laptop down. But when I wanted to put away my lunch, it wasn’t there. At first, I thought it was lost, but turns out I just forgot it at home. Bruh. But here’s the good news: suddenly my dad sent me 100,000 rupiah for snacks and that instantly boosted my mood.
The first lesson was Qur’an class, but the teacher didn’t come, so it was replaced with the religion teacher. His personality is kind of strict-funny, so if you misread even a little, he’d immediately correct you, but in a half-joking way. The second lesson was ICT. We learned about Artificial Intelligence, but since I already know a lot about it, I got bored and did something else. What I did instead was make a random website with only a header saying “BARAQ WAS HERE,” a crazy Elmo GIF under it, and a marquee text above the header that said “this website made by baraq 10C.” Below all that, I wrote in small text, “wanna go on an adventure? scroll down!” Then I made a super long empty space with little texts like “keep scrolling” until the very bottom. At the end, I added a PNG image of a door that, if clicked, redirected to Rick Astley’s Never Gonna Give You Up. Classic, right? And since I couldn’t use Hostinger or Neocities on the school’s computer (for some reason Neocities wouldn’t open), I just dropped the raw file on the desktop so when clicked, it opened directly in Chrome. Lol.
That ICT lesson was cut short because we had to vote for the student council president, so we went to the auditorium. The place was packed, and most students voted for candidate number one (probably because he’s popular). Honestly, his goals felt unclear and his public speaking wasn’t that good, especially compared to candidate number two. But all my friends were solid in convincing and even forcing me to vote for number one. I just went along with them, though secretly I voted for number two. Aowkaowk.
The third lesson was English, and I was excited because we finally started practicing for the English Assembly drama. English Assembly is a theater performance done by each class, where they act out stories like Frozen, Coco, The Sound of Music, and so on. My class chose Mamma Mia! (my idea LOL). Our September goal was to finish the script, and writing scripts is one of my skills because I used to write them for film competitions in middle school. So this was easy for me. Oh, also, the Mamma Mia! story we made was changed. Normally, Sophie has three possible dads, but we changed it so she only has one dad who rarely comes back. Pretty far off, right? Anyway, in class we started memorizing the script I made and did the cast division. It was finally starting to feel alive, and we even tried out some choreography ideas. It already feels like making a real musical, and I absolutely love musicals.
The fourth lesson was Art and Culture. Honestly, it was boring. We were just told to draw six objects with balanced composition. But the interesting part was my friend AQS jokingly said to me, “ugh, I can’t draw, it looks so bad, ew.” (And honestly, his drawing really did look like something a third grader would do.) Then I called over our female friend SKR. They’re kind of close, not dating but people ship them. I joked, “hey, your friend here needs encouragement!” and then she cheered AQS up. Suddenly, AQS tried to jokingly flirt with her and almost touched her hand, but SKR playfully hit him. Later after class, SKR told me she was actually flustered because AQS almost touched her. Cieee.
The fifth lesson didn’t exist. From then until the end of the day, it was all used for counting the student council votes. We were told to sit on the floor and watch. Of course, everyone was bored, so some watched, some played on their phones, some chatted. I was bored too, then I saw my friend next to me playing with Snapchat filters. I suddenly remembered I still had Snapchat, so I joined in. We messed with funny filters like Shrek kissing someone’s face, etc. I tried them on myself and my friend HZM. He’s one of my close friends, a kind and nerdy type, very funny.
The funny part during the vote count was that everyone was cheering for candidate number one. I got FOMO and joined the cheers, even mocking number two, even though I had actually voted for him. Only HZM knew I voted for number two lol. In the end, number one won. After that, we did wudhu, prayed, and got ready to go home. Before leaving, I chatted with some friends, including HZM. We talked about childhood TV shows, like the iconic Paddle Pop animation. Turns out my friend SYQ’s dad was the producer of Paddle Pop! Both HZM and I were shocked. That was a pretty big job back then.
Time skip to home (I biked back). Since I got my bike back, I thought I could go anywhere again. I planned to visit my old middle school. When I arrived, I realized they had midterm exams this week, so they went home earlier. Instead, I went to my favorite snack stall and bought my favorite drink: vanilla Pop Ice. The taste was just as good as I remembered, though super sweet. What shocked me was the price: only 4k! At my current private school, 4k can barely buy candy. Even iced tea costs 5k. Everything’s expensive there. After that, I went home.
When I got upstairs, I was confused because the lights, AC, and everything upstairs weren’t working. Turns out the electricity was out. Earlier in the morning, the outlet in my brother’s room had burned, maybe that was related. So I told my mom, who had just gotten home after taking my sister to therapy. She thought something was broken, so we decided to sleep downstairs together in my parents’ room. Honestly, it was fun because it felt lively. But then after checking again, it turned out it was only the electricity switch. Bruh.
That night, I had a chat with my mom. I asked her if my skills could actually be enough to directly become a lecturer in visual communication marketing. She even said my creativity was already above some university lecturers she knew. I agree, because this subject feels easy for me since I’ve always been into graphic design. After that, we talked about what psychiatrists (SPKJ specialists) actually do. Funny enough, I became kind of interested. Back then I hated the idea of studying medicine so much that I cried, but now I’m a bit more open to it, even though I suck at science.
That’s probably it. The last thing I did today was write this journal. What do you think? Do you have any interesting stories to share or opinions about this? Just leave a comment!
